March 5, 2025Today I’m going to show you how to crop images in Photoshop.
Let’s get straight to it and show you how.
If you want to learn additional techniques, feel free to use the chapter links below:
Cropping Images In Photoshop
In Photoshop, select the crop tool, which is located on the toolbar on the left of your screen. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut (C) to access the crop tool.
Click on the crop tool.
You’ll see a three-by-three grid overlay on the canvas.

Use the corners and the edges to drag around the part of the image you want to keep.
You can also rotate your crop area. Perfect for straightening some wonky images!
I’ll go through this later.
Hit Enter or Return on your keyboard to commit and finish your crop.

How To Crop In Photoshop To A Specific Size
There will be times when you need to crop your images to specific sizes, like product images on a website with white space around the product.
To crop a specific size, click on the crop tool.
On the panel at the top, you’ll see some options where you can input size measurements.

We’ll change the option on the drop to be W x H x Resolution, this is the most common setting you’ll use with this.

Now input the pixel width and height of the crop as well as the resolution. If you want to keep it high-res I’d suggest keeping that at 300.
Hit Enter or Return and your crop will be complete.
If you have multiple images to do this for, it is worth saving a crop preset to save you time inputting the same dimensions.
Non-destructive cropping
What is non-destructive cropping?
Non-destructive cropping in Photoshop allows you to crop an image without permanently deleting the cropped areas. This means you can adjust or undo the crop at any time without losing any part of the original image.
To enable non-destructive cropping.
Have the crop tool selected. On the control bar at the top of your screen there is a tick box next to the words ‘deleted cropped pixels’.

Un-tick this box, which will enable non-destructive cropping.
How To Crop And Straighten Photos In Photoshop
To straighten photos in Photoshop using the crop tool is very simple.
Select the crop tool, and your cursor will change into a curved arrow on the outside corners of the crop box.
This allows you to rotate the image and straighten it.

Make sure you have the ‘deleted cropped pixels’ option un-ticked like in the section above so you don’t permanently crop the image.
